Freeths is a kick above the rest

03 August 2017

Thursday 3rd August marked the 5th anniversary of Freeths’ Annual Football Tournament for businesses in Oxford. It’s not all about football as a donation is made to charity from the entry fees paid by teams taking part. The preferred charity for 2017 was Sobell House, a hospice serving the residents of Oxfordshire affected by life-limiting illness.

This year’s tournament included teams from local organisations such as Savills, The M Group, CRUK, Critchleys and Shaw Gibbs. The tournament also saw the launch of a women’s league with a team from Critchleys taking on the might of a team from Freeths. The final result of the women’s league was a straight win for Freeths. However, Freeths’ success was short-lived as it wasn’t long before Critchleys, in the men’s league, got their own back by beating Freeths’ men’s team and other teams to secure their victory and defend their title for a second year in a row. The tournament’s runners-up were Savills, who displayed impressive ball skills and team effort on the pitch.

There were more than 80 people that took part in the sporting event with friends and family also attending to show their support from the sidelines.

Desh Patel, Senior Associate in the Oxford office, commented: ‘This year was our tournament’s most successful year and it continues to grow year on year as more businesses take part and it was a real pleasure to finally see the introduction of a women’s league. I’d like to say thank you to everyone who got involved as the purpose of our tournament is to encourage networking opportunities and enhance wellbeing through sport whilst raising funds for good causes.’Freeths womens football team Freeths' women's winning team
